German Course as Bildungsurlaub in Berlin

‘Educational Leave’ (‘Bildungsurlaub’) is something that employers around Germany grant their employees who want to further their education in a number of fields, including language learning. As an employed individual, you have the right to attend a further training course without this time counting against your normal vacation days.

Do note that Germany’s laws on educational leave vary from state to state.

That is to say, it is important that you familiarize yourself on the laws and restrictions of the federal state in which your employer is based when it comes to each federal state’s ‘Educational Leave’ program.

Among our German courses, the Intensivkurs Spezial is recognized as Educational Leave, both in Berlin and Brandenburg. As an employee in either one of these federal states, you are entitled to five working days of educational leave per year. You can also transfer the entitlement to the following year and then attend our German course as educational leave for ten working days (i.e. two weeks).

How do I register for my German class as part of my educational leave?

Register online below or at our school office for the Intensive Course Special as educational leave. Together with our regular confirmation of enrollment, you will receive a confirmation from our administrative office which you can then forward to your employer. According to the Bildungsurlaubsgesetz (German Educational Leave Law), it is advised that you apply for your Bildungsurlaub six weeks before the start of your German course in order to give your employer an adequate amount of time to grant your educational leave. Please note that you do reserve the possibility to fully cancel your course - up to two weeks before the start of the course - if your employer denies your Bildungsurlaub. At the end of your German course, you will receive an official certificate - with which you can provide your employer - that states that you had participated in the educational leave program. Feel free to send us an email if you have any further questions.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!
